The short version
The safest place for your notes about the people in your life is a place we can't reach. Second Hello has no server and no account, so there's nothing of yours for us to lose. Your data lives on your phone, protected by your phone's own security.
No server, no account
Second Hello doesn't send your check-ins, people, notes or progress anywhere. It has no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no crash-reporting software, and its fonts and challenges are built into the app. The only outside service it talks to is Apple's App Store, on your device, to check your subscription.
How your data is protected on your phone
Everything is kept in a database inside the app's own private storage. iOS keeps other apps out of it and encrypts your phone's storage using your passcode. Use a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID to get the most out of that protection. Like other app data, it is included in your phone's backups if you have them turned on, which Apple handles under its own policies.
Reminders on your lock screen
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Some include a person's name or a note you wrote, such as "Ask Sam about it". If others can see your phone, set notification previews to show only when unlocked: on iPhone, Settings › Notifications › Show Previews › When Unlocked. To stop reminders altogether, turn off notifications for Second Hello in your phone's Settings.
Exports and reports
Your data export and the monthly report PDF are ordinary files that are not encrypted. They go only where you send them from the share sheet, and from then on that app or person controls them. Share them with people and places you trust.
Deleting your data
Settings › Delete all my data erases everything the app stored. Deleting the app also removes it. Copies in older backups or files you exported aren't affected.
Purchases
Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your Apple ID or your name.
Reporting a security problem
If you think you've found a security issue in Second Hello, email hello@brilliantdisruptions.com with the details and how to reproduce it. Please give us a reasonable chance to fix it before sharing it publicly. We'll reply and keep you posted.
